Abbesses Station, Paris

In Stock|Est. Delivery Wed, Nov 11

The Art Nouveau Abbesses Métro entrance in Montmartre, its green ironwork and yellow Métropolitain sign in morning light.

Montmartre, Again

This one goes back to 2008 — one of our earliest Paris trips, though we've been back several times since. Paris was our honeymoon city, and Montmartre is one of those neighborhoods we keep returning to whenever we're there. The Abbesses stop is hard to walk past without pausing. The Art Nouveau ironwork has this quality of line that's just genuinely beautiful to look at, and somewhere along the way it became something I wanted to draw.

The Abbesses entrance is one of only two original Art Nouveau canopy entrances left in Paris — most were removed in the mid-20th century. This illustration starts from a photo taken at street level, looking straight at the arch. The ironwork, the yellow sign, the train at the platform below — all drawn by hand in our Fort Worth studio.

About the Illustration

The Abbesses Métro station serves Line 12 in the 18th arrondissement of Paris, at the base of the Montmartre hill. The Art Nouveau entrance canopy was designed by Hector Guimard in the early 1900s and is one of only two original enclosed canopy designs still standing in the Paris Métro system.

The illustration captures the entrance from street level with the full canopy arch in the frame, the yellow Metropolitain sign above the entry, and a Line 12 train visible at the platform below.

Paris Wall Art for Any Space

This print works in a home office, living room, bedroom, or as part of a travel gallery wall. It pairs naturally with other city prints in the Hand-Illustrated Stopovers series — Chicago, Rome, Tokyo, Seattle, and New York are all available separately.

The green and gold palette is warm and unusual — different from the typical blue Paris palette most travel prints use. A simple black or brass frame complements the Art Nouveau character of the piece.

A Gift for Paris Lovers

This Paris art print makes a thoughtful gift for anyone who loves French culture, has visited Montmartre, or has a soft spot for beautiful architecture. It is a popular choice as a Paris gift, a Francophile birthday present, or a memento of a trip to the 18th arrondissement.

Printed on Crane's Lettra®

Crane has been making paper in America for more than two hundred years, and Lettra is the sheet their reputation rests on. It is 100% cotton, with no wood pulp at all, and it has a soft, slightly toothy surface that most printing papers simply do not have. Pigment ink settles into the fibers rather than sitting on top, which is why the color reads with depth from across the room.

Printers reach for Lettra when a piece has to feel like something: letterpress invitations, engraved announcements, foil and embossing work. We use it because a hand-drawn illustration deserves a surface that feels handmade too.

Ours is 110 lb Cover in Fluorescent White, 297 GSM. Substantial enough to hold its own in a frame, and bright enough to let the color do its job.
